Playable mission puzzle

Try Street Crime's Safe Cracker before you join

Try an authentic Street Crime mission puzzle without an account, learn its repeated-digit feedback through a worked example, and see what changes inside the full game.

Street Crime's public Safe Cracker has been playable since 12 September. It gives prospective players one complete mission-style puzzle to judge before creating a character: no registration, no download and no need to take the game's wider systems on trust. Open the practice safe in a browser and start turning evidence into a four-digit combination.

Four digits, eight attempts

Each round chooses a random four-digit code using digits from zero to nine. Digits may repeat. You have eight attempts, and every guess marks each digit as exact, misplaced or absent. Exact matches are resolved first; misplaced matches then use only the unmatched copies left in the secret. Each copy in the secret counts once, so adding extra copies to a guess cannot earn extra credit.

Worked example: a sample secret of 1227

For this example only, imagine the secret is 1227. The live practice safe generates its own random code for each round, so 1227 is an explanation rather than a hint.

  1. Guess 1111. The first 1 is exact. The other three copies are absent, giving 1 exact, 0 misplaced and 3 absent.
  2. Guess 2211. The second-position 2 is exact; the leading 2 and third-position 1 are misplaced. The final 1 is an extra copy, giving 1 exact, 2 misplaced and 1 absent.
  3. Guess 1227. All four digits are exact, so the safe opens.

That middle guess is the useful one. It shows that the code contains two copies of 2 and only one copy of 1, while the exact and misplaced labels narrow down their positions. The real round keeps its secret hidden until you solve it or use the eighth attempt.

From practice safe to a live mission

The practice page uses the same Safe Cracker rules as the puzzle a Street Crime boss can put inside a mission. The practice round stays separate from the persistent game: it spends no actions, awards no cash, rank points or other character progress, and cannot complete a mission. Its job is to let you test the deduction mechanic on its own.

Inside the full browser crime RPG, puzzles sit among boss briefings and objectives that involve crimes, vehicles, travel, trading and conflict. Your character and progress persist between sessions, so opening a mission safe is one piece of a larger criminal career rather than a standalone score. Street Crime is free to start, with optional paid memberships, credits and virtual items.
